OH YEAH!

Posted on

I just got two packages including what amounts to be a basic starter kit to start making my own polish! I still have another shipment of empty bottles coming but they’re from Taiwan so it’ll be a while. All I need now is to design a label and have a bunch printed off and then open a shop on etsy. I can’t wait! I fell in love with indie polish just weeks ago but fell hard enough to begin experimenting with it myself and I’m in love (in case you missed the last few posts, heh).

SO. EXCITED.

Kerfuffle by butter by London + Cart Jacked by Mentality

Posted on

This post is going to be short and sweet but full of eye candy. The base color is a beautiful, soft, peachy-pink color called Kerfuffle from butter by London and the accent nail has two coats of Cart Jacked by Mentality Polish (etsy shop here here). Cart Jacked is chock full of small bits of glitter in golds, reds, pinks, and purples with the occasional larger hexagonal piece in the same colors. It looks beautiful on its own but shines best when you apply it on top of another color.

Please try to ignore how haggard my fingernails and cuticles are. I have been doing a lot of housework and it has totally ruined my nails. I’ve broken almost every single one at some point in the last week, probably from handling cleaning supplies without gloves and such. My fingers are dried up and my cuticles are on a whole ‘nother level when it comes to awfulness right now. With that being said… On to the photos!

Set in Stones by Essie

I’m trying to distract myself from the fact that it is way too late for me to be up right now, especially given the fact that I need to prepare for my brother in law and his family coming into town later on today. Sometimes I can be such an insomniac. I can’t really afford to  be one with a small child on a schedule (awake at 7 a.m., asleep at 7 p.m., and one nap during the afternoon for about an hour) because I end up becoming an exhausted zombie mom.

At least tonight’s insomnia won’t be in vain, right? I bring you Set in Stones by Essie.

Each photo shows a different type of lighting which really allowed the glitter to shine. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to capture the true awesomeness of this polish no matter what lighting I took the photos in. Just remember it’s 10 times more amazing in person and that’s all there is to it. I haven’t been this in love with a polish in quite some time!

Addicted.

It’s official: I’m addicted to indie and franken polish. I’ve been “frankening” all week and  come up with five particular bottles I enjoy quite a lot. I’ve also ordered some suspension liquid, empty bottles, and other items to start making legitimate nail polish. Ultimately I would like to sell it but we’ll see how that goes.

In the mean time I’ll continue doing what I do: buying absurd amounts of polish and writing about it all here. This past week I’ve purchased:

  • Violette Coquette by Lancome (first Lancome polish)
  • Rose Boudoir by Lancome
  • Sunbaker by butter by London
  • Secret Peri-winkle by China Glaze
  • Sweet Hook by China Glaze
  • Scattered & Tattered by China Glaze
  • Lightning Bolt by China Glaze
  • Van Gogh’s Violet by Finger Paints
  • Paper Mache by Finger Paints
  • Set in Stones by Essie
  • Haley Good Lookin’ by Nicole by OPI
  • Confetti Fun by Nicole by OPI
  • Beige-a-vu by Nina Ultra Pro
  • Sparkling by Revlon
  • Seche Vite topcoat

Like I said though, I’ve been so wrapped up with mixing polishes that I’ve barely tried any of this new stuff out except for Rose Boudoir by Lancome and Set in Stones by Essie (which is AH-MAZ-ING, by the way!).  Here are a few bottles I’ve come up with:

My father and step-mother are in town from Georgia. I picked them up from the Wilmington International Airport earlier today and it has got to be the smallest “legitimate” airport I have ever seen in my entire life. It was kind of adorable, really.

Thus far we’ve had a great weekend and being around my folks has made me realize how much I miss living within a day’s drive of them (they are roughly 10 hours away and that isn’t a feasible trek with a toddler unless you break it into two days or want to end the day in a drunken stupor in order to forget the wretchedness you have experienced over the course of the past 24 hours). I was last in Georgia at the end of 2012 and will likely not be back until the end of this year or maybe even some time in 2014. It’s kind of weird to be so far away but at the same time I’ve lived much, much further away (Vermont), just not for this long of a time. It’s also the most annoying distance you could ever conceive… A 10 hour drive is “short” enough to leave them within reach but long enough to prevent you from attempting such a trip if you’re going solo with a small child. It’s not quite long enough to warrant a plane flight for most occasions though. Apparently my dad and step-mom’s flight wasn’t even long enough tor each altitude.

Anyway. We will be skeet shooting and kayaking tomorrow. After spending the past week dodging tornadoes (one a half mile wide in our county on Monday morning!) and other big storms the weather is supposed to be spectacular so it’s shaping up to be a nice, leisurely weekend.

Lots of alcohol and family bonding, just the way I like it!

1,000 Hits and New Hair!

Posted on

First and foremost I would like to announce a very big “deal” for me: This blog has reached 1,000 hits! Most of them have occurred in the past month too! I obviously started this a year ago, kept it up for three months, and then went AWOL due to several moves to different states (thank you, military) but after reviewing my site stats I have found that strangely enough people continued viewing my blog in the mean time. Now that I have begun updating regularly again I have 17 followers (20 if you count the three I feel aren’t legitimate… It’s hard to explain but I think they’re just trying to advertise or up their numbers; it’s obvious they have nothing to do with nails, fashion, beauty, women, art, etc.) and gain a new one every few days.

This might seem like nothing to the average blogger but it’s a big deal for me, especially when I just revived this thing not that long ago. When I left it I had something like three or four followers and not many hits whatsoever. I was pretty much talking to myself 🙂 If my blog keeps growing at this pace I will be a happy camper! I’m not asking to be the number one blog online but I sure would like to network with other people who love polish like I do. I sincerely hope those of you reading this have enjoyed my 57 posts thus far!

Now onto my new hair!

Before:

This was my 100% natural hair color. The last time I colored it was in June 2012 and it was a box dye slightly darker than my natural tone. Obviously it faded within a few months leaving me with my natural color. This photo makes it almost look red but it’s definitely more brown. In fact, I’d go as far as saying it was Boring Brown!

During 😉

And after:

Which do you prefer, blonde or brunette? (My feelings won’t be hurt either way. I’ve gone back and forth between the two since I was 14 so I obviously like both!)

Sew Psyched by Essie and Girly by Revlon

Today’s reviews are for Sew Psyched by Essie and Girly by Revlon.

Could I have picked two polishes any more opposite? Nope, I don’t think so! Both were purchased at a local drug store for their regular prices (Essie is roughly $8.00 a bottle and Revlon is usually about $4.99 a bottle).

First up is Sew Psyched.
